Young Heather fit's right in with her Elders: Scotland defeat SA!
Quite simply a great performance and victory from the Scotland Senior Ladies, against a strong South African side full of pedigree. Rolling subs on an average of every 6 to 8 minutes, Head Coach Gordon Shepherd is trying out all players within the squad, over the six games (Ireland x 2, South Africa x 4) being played at Peffermill.
And yesterday was the turn of Heather Elder, who got her first Scotland Senior cap following on from Maisie Morris on Monday and Louise Campbell on Tuesday. And like both debutantes before her, she didn't disappoint. It was a performance of real confidence and self-assurance - and her hard work led to goal 1 from Ali Howie and an assist to set up goal 2 scored by Mo McLellan.
South Africa got their first of two goals in the second half, but the ever-reliable goal-scoring machine, Nikki Kidd, got Scotland's third to take it to 3-1 to the Scots. Scotland could have scored more, with Nikki Kidd seeing her fantastic top-of-the-D shot rattling off the post - and the always dangerous Vikki Bunce also coming so close on a couple of occasions. With a few minutes left, South Africa got a second - but Scotland at times had defended brilliantly and finished the game on top and a 3-2 win.
The whole team played so well, but special mention has to go to new cap Elder, an inspired Ali Howie, the no-nonsense Vikki Bunce, and the so-solid performances of Nicki Lloyd and Kaz Marshall.
