Tayside tenacity: Wanderers grab 3 points and a lifeline! - AD-HOCKSPORTS

Bobby Ralph scores the second of his two goals against Hillhead.

Wanderers grab three points and a lifeline!

For Hillhead this was a very similar game/performance (experience!) to last Saturday's match against Uddingston.  MJV Dundee Wanderers, sitting one spot below the Uddy and  bottom of National 1, came out just like Uddingston last week, all guns blazing, fighting hard to ensure National 1 survival.  And the first half was their half - and when it comes to the final product, they owned it with three well taken goals; two from Bobby Ralph and the third from Parveen Kumar.

Hillhead weren't miles behind in that first half and had a fair bit of pressure themselves, including five penalty corners, but overall they just didn't look sharp. Wanderers, on the other hand, were extremely sharp, and more importantly - and like Uddingston at the same venue last week - far faster off the blocks from minute one, with their three goals complimenting their determination and alertness.

Second half and 0-3 down, Hillhead came out a different side, just like they had the week before; and with communication between players a lot better, they careered into the second period playing the way they should have started the game.  And they got two goals back, including a PF despatched by captain Andrew Hilton.

However, ultimately it was all too late, against a travelling Wanderers side that had definitely done enough in the first half.  They played really well in that first 35 minutes, setting aside any thoughts of possible relegation, and got down to the task of scoring much needed goals.  And there was some good performances in there, including two-goal man Bobby Ralph and ex-Hillhead man James Ross.

For Hillhead there was a far better second half performance to look at - just like last week.  But with one game left before the play-offs it's looking very flat for them at the moment.  There was, however, some good individual performances, including Craig Paterson, Alan Meikle and Ewan Campbell.  But the standout was Fraser Ward who put in a great shift.

Hillhead, as a team, were pretty poor yesterday at times to say the least.  They will know what has to be done to pick it all up come crunch time.

Meanwhile, MJV Dundee Wanderers are right back into it today with another massive game, this time against Edinburgh University down in the capital.
