Giffnock Ladies 1's win well, but St Andrew's Uni make them work!
On paper, Giffnock Ladies 1's were looking like taking this Scottish Cup fixture well into double figures against St Andrew's University Ladies 1's. But St Andrew's Ladies had their own take on matters, and held a strong, powerful Giffnock side at bay for the better part of the first half before conceding one goal before half time. Giffnock got the second half off to a good start with a second goal only three minutes in - and then progressed quickly, capitalising on their overall dominance with five more goals. Giffnock player/coach, ex Scotland and Great Britain player Rhona Simpson, played high in a strong midfield alongside current Scotland internationalist Kaz Marshall within the ranks of a Giffnock side that spent most of the game in the opposition circle. The university girls were at times inspired, as they did everything in their power to stop the constant attack and firepower of the women in white from National 1. FINAL SCORE: Giffnock 7 St Andrew's University 0. See all the action right here. [13/11/2011]
